Sometimes known as ‘The Vampire Facelift', PRP is a skin rejuvenation treatment which uses the healing agents from a patient’s own blood to rejuvenate the skin

What is Platelet Rich Plasma therapy?

PRP skin rejuvenation injections, also referred to as the “vampire facial” is a cutting edge cosmetic procedure during which the patient’s own blood is collected and processed in order to separate the red blood cells from the Plasma, producing a rich serum known as Platelet Rich Plasma.

This serum of concentrated blood platelets is injected into the skin in order to stimulate the surrounding cells to start the healing process. This acts to restore and regenerate the skin tissue while adding volume.

The production of new collagen and elastin results in an improvement in the appearance of the skin, while simultaneously improving overall skin tone and elasticity.

What is involved in the treatment?

A small sample of blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the blood platelets and plasma.

While the sample is being prepared, a local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin in preparation for treatment. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into the skin using a very fine needle.

The treatment takes around 45 minutes and due to the local anaesthetic, causes minimal discomfort. Microneedling treatment can also be combined with PRP therapy to optimise results.

How long will results last?

Results of PRP therapy can be seen from three to four weeks post treatment which continues to improve in time. Further PRP treatments are recommended at a minimum of four to six weeks apart.

Results can last from 12 to 18 months. Additional treatments may be required in order to achieve optimum results. Every patient is different; skin condition, age and lifestyle are all factors in the outcome of results.
