Mesotherapy has been used successfully to encourage skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth, localised fat reduction and as a treatment for cellulite and stretch marks

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy was first developed in the 1950s to treat vascular and lymphatic disorders.

Since then the treatment has been used successfully to encourage skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth, localised fat reduction and as a treatment for cellulite and stretch marks.

Mesotherapy, commonly known as ‘biorejuvenation’ or ‘biorevitalization’, is a technique used to rejuvenate the skin by means of a transdermal injection of a multivitamin solution and natural plant extracts that are thought to improve the signs of skin aging.

Mesotherapy treats ageing skin by replacing minerals, vitamins and amino acids that are found in the skin as we age. The treatment can also be used to boost levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin to improve skin texture and firmness.

What can be treated with Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy can be used to treat a number of cosmetic conditions including:

• Wrinkles and fine lines
• Ageing skin
• Hair loss (alopecia)
• Stretch marks
• Cellulite

What is involved in the treatment?

The technique involves the injection of a specially prepared mixture, via a very fine needle, underneath the dermal layer of the skin into the subcutaneous fat. The combination of substances injected depends on the mixture prepared by your practitioner, but may contain minute quantities of plant extracts, vitamins, enzymes, nutrients, hormones and medications such as vasodilators, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, beta-receptor agonists and antibiotics.

For the treatment of cellulite and body fat reduction, two of the more common substances used are lecithin and isoproterenol. Lecithin is a compound found in human bile and needed for the digestion of dietary fats, whilst isoproterenol is a lipolytic agent that sets off a chemical reaction in the body to breakdown fat cells.

For treating the face, your practitioner will advise what kind of mesotherapy is most appropriate. Generally, a mixture of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid is used for the face for hydration and improvement in skin texture.

How long does treatment last?

Each treatment takes about 10 to 20 minutes and is generally not painful. Mesotherapy usually requires a series of anywhere between three to fifteen treatment sessions, administered at two week intervals.

How long will results last?

Results will start to show after the first few treatments however every patient is different; skin condition, age and lifestyle are all factors in the outcome of results. It is encouraged to maintain the treatment, however this will be discussed with your practitioner and form part of your treatment plan.
